Lebanese nationals detained in Bahrain for links with Hezbollah

Onlineredaktion – Five Lebanese nationals have been detained by Bahraini authorities for alleged contacts with Lebanese Shiite armed group Hezbollah.

The men were arrested on Monday night from a restaurant, where they were working as waiters.

„They were arrested from the restaurant and we do not have any more information,“ a waiter at the Lebanese restaurant in Manama told Xinhua on Wednesday.

Bahrain on Tuesday warned its citizens from travelling to Lebanon citing threat to their lives by outlawed groups.

„Due to threats and blatant interference in Bahrain’s internal affairs from terror parties, citizens are warned and advised against travelling to Lebanon, as their safety would be endangered, “ Bahrain’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Bahrain’s national carrier Gulf Air has suspended its flights to Beirut starting from Wednesday until Friday.

The move took place after the leader of Hezbollah Hassan Nasrallah openly criticized troops from neighboring Gulf countries for helping quell anti-government protests in Bahrain, a close U.S. ally.
